16 of 20 modules complete
Welcome to Unit 5 — the final unit. You have completed all the technical foundations of this course. This unit is about converting that knowledge into career outcomes: the right certifications, a strong profile, freelancing opportunities, and a final project that pulls everything together.
This module answers a question every Indian engineering student asks: which AI certifications are actually worth the time and money? The answer is more specific than most guides admit — it depends on your current role, your target role, and what Indian recruiters actually look for.
What Indian employers actually look for
Before listing certifications, the honest context: a hiring manager at Goldman Sachs India put it directly — “When I see 8 EdTech badges and zero vendor certifications, I actually view it negatively — it suggests the candidate chose easy wins over meaningful credentials.”
The rule of thumb for Indian IT in 2026: One strong vendor certification (Google, Microsoft, AWS) paired with a real portfolio project outperforms five EdTech badges every time. Certifications signal that you studied. Projects prove that you can build. The strongest profiles have both — in that priority order: project first, certification second.
The three tiers of recognition at Indian IT companies and product companies:
| Tier | Examples | Indian IT recognition | Value |
|---|
| Tier 1 — Vendor certs | Google Cloud Professional ML Engineer, Microsoft Azure AI Engineer, AWS AI Practitioner | Highest — explicitly listed in JDs at TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL AI CoE roles | Strong resume signal, salary negotiation leverage |
| Tier 2 — Platform professional certs | Google AI Essentials, DeepLearning.AI GenAI Specialisation, IBM Generative AI Professional Certificate | Good — recognised at product companies and AI-forward teams | Clear learning path, globally recognised, reasonable cost |
| Tier 3 — Free completion badges | Microsoft Learn AI modules, Google Cloud Skills Boost badges, NASSCOM FutureSkills badges | Moderate — useful for LinkedIn but not a standalone differentiator | Best for upskilling quickly at no cost; add to LinkedIn Skills section |

Paid certifications worth the investment

★ Why developers should prioritise this: This is the certification that best maps to what Unit 2 and 3 of this course cover — prompt engineering at a technical level, API usage, and LangChain basics. A developer who completes this plus the no-code workflow project from Module 4.4 has a strong, differentiated portfolio.
WHAT IT COVERSDesigning and building ML/AI systems on Google Cloud — Vertex AI, BigQuery ML, model deployment, MLOps. Requires 3+ years ML experience to pass.
INDIA COSTExam fee: $200 (≈ ₹16,700). Preparation: Google Cloud Skills Boost free learning path + paid practice exams ₹1,500–3,000.

★ The long-term goal for developers: This is the most valuable single credential for Indian IT AI roles. It is hard to get, which is exactly why it signals strongly. Prepare using the free Google Cloud Skills Boost learning paths, then take the exam when ready. The preparation path itself teaches you more than any shorter course.
WHAT IT COVERSGenAI concepts, AI tools for productivity, using AI responsibly in professional settings. No coding. Designed for business professionals across all industries.

The financial aid route — getting paid certificates free
All Coursera certifications offer financial aid. Most Indian students do not know how easy the application is.
Process: Open any Coursera course → Click “Enroll for Free” → Scroll down → Click “Financial Aid available” → Fill a 200-word application explaining your situation → Submit. Approval rate is approximately 80% within 15 days. The application is evaluated honestly — if you genuinely cannot afford the certificate, you will likely be approved.
What to write: Be specific and honest. “I am a final-year BTech student in [city]. The course certificate will help me in campus placements at companies like TCS and Infosys. I cannot currently afford the fee because [reason].” 200 words is enough.
This route gives you the same certificate as anyone who paid full price. No marking of financial aid on the certificate — it looks identical.
The three things to remember
KEY TAKEAWAYS — MODULE 5.1
- One vendor certificate beats five EdTech badges — Google, Microsoft, and DeepLearning.AI certificates carry real signal with Indian IT recruiters. A portfolio project beats all of them. The strongest profile has: one vendor certificate + one real project + this course completed.
- Free audits first, pay only for certificates you will use — every certification in this module is free to audit. Learn the content first. Pay for the certificate only when you are confident it aligns with your target role and you will actually list it prominently on your resume and LinkedIn.
- Use the Coursera Financial Aid route — 80% of applicants are approved within 15 days. A 200-word honest application gets most Indian students access to paid certificates at no cost. There is no reason to skip a certificate purely because of price.
This assignment produces a concrete 90-day certification plan you can start immediately.
- Choose your path from the four role-specific paths above — Developer, Analyst, Fresher, or Manager. If your role does not fit neatly into one, pick the path closest to your target role.
- Identify your first certification — the one you will start this week. It should be free to audit. Go to the Coursera or Microsoft Learn page right now and enrol for free.
- Plan the paid certificate — which one will you pay for (or apply for Financial Aid)? Check the actual cost on Coursera today (prices vary by region and time). If you need Financial Aid, draft the 200-word application text now while the motivation is high.
- Set your timeline — write three dates in your AI Learning Journal: "Start date", "Audit complete by", "Certificate applied/purchased by." Putting dates on paper converts intention into a plan.
- Add to your Company AI Research document from Assignment 1.3 — does your target company list any specific certifications in their job descriptions? If so, add that certification to your plan.
The best time to start the Google AI Essentials free audit is right now — it takes less than 5 hours and gives you a Google-branded credential to add to LinkedIn immediately.

This helps keep the course free for everyone. Certifications are recommended based on genuine career value — not commission rates.
